Here's what I would offer: we can't say, unilaterally, "no non-DEAD posts!" or too many of us would die of hypocritical embarrassment. I do feel, completely without objective, independent support, that the non-DEAD posts that consist of one or more Forumites (read: the folks we all know, that I realize sounds terribly snobbish, have established themselves via regular DEAD related posts) having a polite (or not so depending on their inclinations at the time) exchange don't do any great harm, and often we learn something about sports, history, or even economics.

Another category might be the occasional "new flash" free of suggestions as to what you might do if you disagree with the sentiments of the poster (often implied).

But, random posts out of the blue, not directed to a particular Forumite for an exchange of one sort or another, rank up there with spam, it seems to me...

I know, I know; this sounds like a set of rules that only I know how to implement...just like porn, I can't always define it, but I know it when I see it. Speaking of which, gotta run...

Hmmm, I agree...this is getting a little bit creepy.

Sometimes we beat on your horses,
Sometimes we beat alone,
Sometimes the things that we beat
Are just things of our own...

Oh, yeah--that really works. Good one. I am even singing it in my little Jerry voice; seriously, I can't think of that verse without it coming out in "Jerry Sound" in my head.

I've noticed that on both extremes, left and right, people who disagree with oneself are labeled "Intolerant". To me, intolerance is not allowing other points of view to be discussed. Morons who shout down & threaten people at rallys & meetings, for example, Netanyahu being shouted down in Berkeley and not allowed to speak (I was there), the Hamas supporters in San Francisco, threating me in 2005 while hiding behind scarfs. I really learned the face of hate & evil then, I could feel it heavy in the air.
In those cases, I can say they ARE intolerant.

Other than making these points in this particular thread, I agree, the GDforum should be kinda GD related (and i have been guilty -duh)
But it's a New Year! Hugs everyone - even you tree huggers ;) gotta run also, free chinese food awaits me-yum!
